Posted: Tuesday, March 4, 2014

There are quite a few developments taking place as you’d expect in Jumeirah. The Roads and Transport Authority recently announced the awarding of the Jumeirah Corniche Development contract. It is for a 14km long beach side development alongside six residential areas behind the Dubai Marine Beach Resort & Spa will go right up to the famous Burj Al Arab Hotel in Dubai, and it’s estimated to be worth nearly 27 million Dollars.

It will be a place for the public to relax and enjoy the area, with relaxation facilities and the ability to practice lots of activities. It is planned to have a five metre-wide walk, a four metre-wide jogging track, rest areas including small shop kiosks and shade covered benches which sounds wonderful. Work began in February 2013, with the opening of the project set for next November 2014.

New Safari Park to use Solar Power

Another interesting development is underway in the safari park in Al Warqa and will use solar power to generate electricity in an effort to make the park as eco-friendly as possible.

The solar energy produced will be used to power an artificial wadi system, transport and amusement facilities in the park. It is estimated that the solar energy produced will save the park $76,231 every year. The park itself covers an area of 119 hectares and consists of a safari village, Asian village, Arabian village and Africa Village plus a children’s zoo, gardens, golf course, Butterfly Park and a resort for visitors, plus there will also be educational facilities and veterinary facilities on site.

The expected 1000 animals will now be housed in temperature controlled environments, which is crucial for some of the animals unable to take the heat of the summer. It is also expected that it will recycle its own water usage.

The big story for all the fashionistas this month must have been the fabulous news that Karl Lagerfeld is bringing his Chanel Cruise show to Dubai in May 2014. The previous shows have been in amazing places such as; St Tropez, Los Angeles, Venice and Singapore.

Dubai to see Top Fashion Cruise Show

Bruno Pavlovsky, president of Chanel said, “In addition to being a key hub for our fashion business in the Middle East, Dubai was chosen because it inspires travel and evokes the true spirit of Cruise. The show that we will hold in this city on May 13, in the presence of Karl Lagerfeld, will be a unique event that will feed the public’s imagination around our brand.”

Emirates airline to be Listed

In other business news, Dubai is thinking about listing some of its most valuable state-controlled companies, which could include Emirates Airline, which would raise billions of Pounds in revenue for the Country.

Dubai’s finance chief, Mohammed al-Shaibani, says that some of the state-owned companies could also be partially floated on the London Stock Exchange and hinted that the emirate views the UK as a strategic location for future investment.

Mr Shaibani commented that, “We have a lot of entities here that can also go public and that should be a fantastic way to raise capital if we need it,”

Mr Shaibani who oversees the Dubai government’s main investment holding company also said that Emirates, Fly Dubai and Dubai Airports were among a list of Government Related Entities (GREs) that could possibly be sold to the public at some point to raise funds.

A new Pet Market in Dubai

I’m glad to see that Dubai is expected to open the doors of its pet market in the next few months. Strict regulations will be implemented and only authorised cats, dogs and birds will be on sale. The move is part of efforts to combat the illegal trade of birds and animals. The facility will be located on a 50-hectare development on the Hatta-Dubai Road.

Tom Kitchin Visits Dubai

Posted: Sunday, February 9, 2014

It’s been a pretty busy month here in Jumeirah, we had the wonderful celebrity Scottish Chef, Tom Kitchin visits Dubai to create some interesting dishes with products from Scotland and the UK, while at the recently refurbished British restaurant D&A, formally known as the Dhow & Anchor.

Duabi to invest in Scotland

While there he hosted cooking demonstrations, highlighting Scottish food to his guests. Everyone there got to taste his organic creations throughout the evening. This event was in conjunction with Scottish Development International. This company works to develop the Scottish economy by encouraging inward investment and helping Scottish-based companies develop trade in the UAE and around the world.

There was a fantastic event happening this month, which saw, Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares, leading a group of 8000 people of all ages and nationalities, at Dubai Cares’ Walk for Education 2014.

The fifth event of the annual 3km walk was organised by Dubai Cares to underline the significance of quality primary education in developing countries and was held at Jumeirah Beach Park on February 7, 2014.

Participants from all walks of life came together for the Walk and celebrations, which were hosted by Kris Fade, a local radio DJ. Families and children gathered at Jumeirah Beach Park after the Walk and enjoyed a great range of activities, which included face-painting, a games arcade, children’s games, a photo booth and crazy performances by acrobats.

During his participation in the Walk, Tariq Al Gurg, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Cares, thanked the 8000-strong crowd saying: “Although our philanthropic work is based in developing countries around the world, the UAE community has always been our pillar of strength and support. Thanks to your constant generosity, in terms of time as well as funds, we have been able to reach over 8 million children across 31 countries and provide them with the tools to break the cycle of poverty and build a future of personal, professional, economic and social prosperity”, which was great to hear I think you will agree.
